About Outside the Lines
As the oldest son of a Chicago crime lord, Robert Delgado always knew how dangerous life could be. With his mother dead and his father in prison, he’s taking charge of his family’s safety—putting himself and his siblings in witness protection to hide out in a backwater Florida town.
Fourth grade teacher Adri Wilson is worried about the new boy in her class. Sherm is quiet and evasive, especially when he’s around his even cagier older brother. Adri can’t help her attraction to Rob, or the urge to help them both in whatever way she can.
But the Delgados have enemies on two sides of the mob—their father’s former crew and the rival family he helped take down. It’s only a matter of time before someone finds them. And if Rob isn’t careful, Adri could end up in the crossfire...
Oustide the Lines by Lisa Desrochers is a romance novel with mob ties that introduced the readers to Robert Delgado and the Delgado Family in witness protection as a result of hit put on their lives as well as a concession to the deal their father struck with the Feds. As part of the program they are given provisions, new identities, and a new life in a small town in Florida, sans all the luxuries of the fab life they had left behind.
Sherm, being the youngest of the Delgado clan, has a teacher by the name of Adri Wilson, who is quite intuitive and sensed a few things immediately upon meeting Sherm and Rob. The first being Rob is hot, the second being Sherm is very withdrawn and maybe Rob is the reason, and the third being that there is just something slightly off when this family is concerned.
As the story progresses it is apparent that Adri and Rob both have daddy issues that play an intricate role in their lives as their story unfold. I can clearly see how they similar, with both fathers wanting to protect their children, by any means necessary, even if it runs the risk jeopardizes their bond. However, with their likenesses there are some clear differences between their fathers and the one obvious one is that they are on opposite sides of the law.
I digress. Although the attraction/chemistry between Rob and Adri is nearly instantaneously, do not expect anything thing to pop-off in this novel between them anytime within the entire first half. The build-up for this story is good, yet VERY slow and I almost let go a couple of times. I mean it is painstakingly slow, but so well written that I just couldn’t put it down. The author did her job of telling a good story, through thick and thin, you wanted to stay with Adri and the Delgado clan through the end. And speaking of the end, just when the pace started to build, it seemed to rush to an ending that I am sure will peek your interest in Book Two of the On the Run series.
Overall, I did actually like the story and would give this one 3.5-stars, because although it is a well written, well developed story, the pace can be a tad off putting to some readers. However, if you are one of those readers who enjoy a good story that will have you thinking about it even when you are doing other things...like work, this is definitely the one for you and for that reason I would recommend that you jog and read Outside the Lines by Lisa Desrochers.
