Only Marriage Will Do by: Jenna Jaxon

Happily-ever-afters don't always begin at "I do."

When the man of her dreams rescues Lady Juliet Ferrers from the villain claiming to be her husband, she is sure she has found her one true love. But is she free to marry him? Not to be deterred, Juliet arranges for her hero to escort her to her family estate in far off Northern England—hoping that along the way she can win his love—and his hand…

Captivated by Juliet's sweetness and beauty, Captain Amiable Dawson can't help but be spellbound by the promise of a life with her. But the spell breaks when questions arise about her marital status. Soon the upstanding Amiable is unsure if he is indeed married to Juliet. And when his rival absconds with her, Amiable must choose between the law of the land and his heart's desire to rescue Juliet once more…

I'll be honest, this historical romance took a little while for me to get into. It wasn't that it started off slow. In fact, the first couple of pages read as though it was a continuation of a storyline already in progress. Being the second book in a series, I believe that's why it took me some time to get into the story. I had to catch up to all of the characters previously introduced in Jaxon's first novel in this series Only Scandal Will Do. For that reason, it couldn't hurt to begin with the first book.

The romance was sweet. It had a "love at first sight" concept that was refreshing. Being a historical romance, I could see that Jaxon tried to insert relevant language of the period. At times, it seemed awkwardly placed and somewhat sporadic. The book would have been just as good if some of the language was left out.

I can best describe the book in two halves. The first half set up the relationship between the two main characters while the second half was riddled with suspense, mystery, and a little bit of danger! Just as I began to look for more toward the end of the first half, the storyline began to take turns that held my interest and made me want more. I couldn't put it down. My recommendation: run and read. Proceed through the first half appreciating the sweet and fresh "love at first sight" romance that it is so that you can get to the plot twisting excitement that wraps up the second half. Enjoy!
